China and Azerbaijan are entering a new phase in their partnership. During President Ilham Aliyev’s upcoming visit to China, the two countries are expected to sign an agreement for a mutual visa-free regime. This important step was discussed at the 10th meeting of the Azerbaijan-China Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, held in Baku.
For me, this is a clear signal that china azerbaijan relations are reaching a new milestone. The introduction of visa-free travel won’t just make tourism and business trips easier—it will deepen cultural understanding and expand the already growing ties between our countries. Both sides have emphasized how this step will give a serious boost to mutual visits and cooperation.
Earlier, in an interview with CGTN, President Ilham Aliyev had said:
“Chinese citizens can now visit Azerbaijan without even needing an electronic visa. Hopefully, Azerbaijanis will soon get the same chance to visit China easily. This will help more people from both countries connect and strengthen friendship between them.”
China-Azerbaijan Relations Grow Alongside Tourism
On April 17, during the credential presentation ceremony of China’s newly appointed Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Lu Mei, diplomatic relations between the two countries saw continued momentum. President Ilham Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s strong commitment to its strategic partnership with China and reiterated full support for the One China policy. In response, Ambassador Lu Mei conveyed President Xi Jinping’s greetings and emphasized China’s steadfast support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. She also expressed a commitment to deepening cooperation across all areas.
As someone who follows international relations closely, I can confidently say that the china azerbaijan partnership is evolving beyond politics—it’s turning into a meaningful connection between people, cultures, and economies. The upcoming visa-free regime is not just a policy shift; it’s a symbol of trust and growing friendship.
